Kaye is here to tell you all about her body positivity:
Hey everyone, Kaye here! Lovely to meet you all! Here's my story, would love to hear all your body confidence vibes, comments below welcome xx
All through my teens and twenties, I thought I was (I hate to use this word now...) "fat" but looking back through old photographs I definitely was a little slimmer than I am now. Growing up in the 80's & 90's we never had as much education and awareness about health & wellness as we do now. I remember coming home from school eating crisp butties accompanied with a packet of crisps - that was the norm back then, beige food - lol!
Luckily for me I did like to exercise - even if it wasn't that often I'd get involved in some kind of gym class or spinning at the local gym. Towards my mid-twenties I found Yoga which really helped me understand my body and overall wellbeing. After about 3 months of going to the local yoga class just once a week, my love handles disappeared, my nights sleep every Thursday was amazing - this was the start to my body confidence.
Yoga is amazing for me, a lot of people I talk to do say, "Oh i'm not flexible enough", "I can't touch my toes", "I like to feel like I've had a workout when I exercise" - Yoga isn't about this, it's about time for you - uniting your body with your breath and getting out of your head and into your body. This is where it all started for me, turning off all that chatter in my head "You're not good enough", "You're too big to wear that" - usual girly crap that we tell ourselves on a daily basis. It's really taught me how to be my own best friend.
Another key part of my overall body confidence is that I surround myself with incredibly positive and fabulous people, we all empower each other. I have a close community of extremely good friends & family, this is key to help me push forward in life and cut out all the nonsense we tell ourselves. They're there to listen to all my problems and more importantly cheer me up when I have those down days that we all experience from time to time. With the help of Yoga, mindfulness, a young outlook on life and now age on my side I'd dropped all the f*cks I've given in the past and I'm here with a much better opinion of myself and loving myself and body beautiful.
As Ru Paul says - "If you can't love yourself, then how the hell can you love anyone else!"
Everybody is totally different and completely unique - wouldn't the world be a boring place if we were all the same. We're all magnificent human beings in our own right - let's embrace every minute that we're here - enjoy our journey and curves together xxxx
